Short answer
Wall volume = length × height × thickness (in feet) ÷ 27. A 20 ft wall, 4 ft tall and 8 inches thick, needs 1.98 cubic yards of concrete.
| 20 ft × 4 ft × 8 in | 1.98 cu yd |
|---|---|
| Per 10 ft at 4 ft × 8 in | 0.99 cu yd |
| Ready-mix | $160–$195+ per cu yd[2] |

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a footing under a concrete wall?
+
Almost always. Calculate the footing separately with the Footing tab and add the two volumes. Retaining walls over a certain height usually need engineering and a permit.
