Concrete Driveway Contractors

Planning a concrete project? Find concrete contractors by city or county. Our guides cover general project planning. Check the directory for current local coverage.

Short answer

Choose a concrete driveway contractor by the complete installation plan, not just the price per square foot. Ask each bidder to price the same removal, ground preparation, slab design, drainage, finish and curing requirements. Use the local directory to find nearby businesses and check their current state license record before hiring.

A new driveway and a replacement need different quotes

For a new driveway, describe the proposed parking area and how it connects to the road and garage. For a replacement, include photos of the existing slab, broken edges, low spots and the street connection. Ask whether demolition, hauling and disposal are included. A replacement quote that excludes removal cannot be compared directly with one that includes it. Also explain where you will park while work is underway and whether the crew must keep a pedestrian route open.

Put vehicle loads and drainage ahead of the finish

Tell bidders whether the driveway will carry passenger cars, delivery vehicles, a boat trailer or an RV. Ask them to explain the proposed slab thickness, base and reinforcement for that use; a decorative finish does not answer those design questions. Show where water collects now, where the garage threshold sits and where runoff should go. Request a written description of the levels and drainage work before deciding on color or pattern.

Compare broom-finished, exposed-aggregate and stamped options

Ask for separate prices for the finishes you are considering, using the same underlying driveway specification. View a completed project as well as a small sample: texture, color variation and joints are easier to judge across a full surface. Ask what cleaning, sealing or future repair the contractor recommends and whether those items are included. Stamped work deserves a separate discussion about pattern layout and how repairs would be matched.

Agree on access after the pour

Get the contractor's instructions for walking, parking and heavier vehicles in writing. An estimated completion date should distinguish the day the crew leaves from the day you can use the driveway. Ask who protects the pour if the forecast changes, who checks the curing protection and how a delay affects your parking plan. Keep the written scope, approved changes and care instructions together for future reference.

What your concrete driveways quote should include

  • Measured area and removal/disposal allowance
  • Ground preparation, base, thickness and reinforcement
  • Drainage, garage transitions and street connection
  • Finish, joints, curing protection and vehicle access
  • Permits, exclusions, change orders and written warranty terms

For budgeting, read the concrete driveways cost guide. These are national estimates, not a local bid. Use the project calculator for quantities after the dimensions are established.

Frequently asked questions

Should I resurface or replace my driveway?

+

Have a contractor inspect the cause of the damage before choosing a surface treatment. Ask whether the proposal addresses settlement, drainage or movement, and get a separate repair option when appropriate.

Can I compare bids by square-foot price alone?

+

Only after confirming that the area and scope match. Removal, access, ground preparation, design and finish can make two apparently similar driveway prices cover very different work.

Prices are national ranges published by the sources above, not quotes. Your price depends on size, access, site preparation and local labor rates. The only way to know is to compare written quotes.
