Concrete Repair Contractors

Short answer

Choose a concrete repair contractor who explains the cause of the damage before recommending a treatment. Crack filling, leveling, resurfacing and replacement solve different problems. Send photos, describe when the damage appeared and ask what each proposal will fix, what it will leave unchanged and what could cause the problem to return.

Describe the problem rather than requesting a product

Photograph the whole slab and close views of cracks, uneven edges, flaking or standing water. Explain whether the problem is changing and whether earlier repairs have been attempted. Include the surface's use: a garden path, garage floor and structural foundation need different assessments. Ask whether an on-site inspection is needed before accepting a fixed price. If there is suspected structural movement, ask whether an engineer should assess it before repair work is specified.

Ask each bidder what their repair actually addresses

A proposal might treat an individual crack, alter the level of a slab, renew a surface or remove and replace concrete. Ask the bidder to explain why the recommended method fits the observed damage. Find out whether the work includes drainage or support beneath the slab, or addresses only its appearance. Comparing those answers is more useful than comparing two prices for work both described simply as concrete repair.

Compare a limited repair with a replacement option

Where a contractor considers both approaches suitable, request separate scopes. Ask about the expected appearance, access disruption, maintenance and limitations of each. A lower initial price may cover a smaller part of the problem. Replacement can also require demolition, disposal and restoration of surrounding areas. Keep those items visible in the estimate instead of assuming they are included.

Clarify the outcome and warranty

Record what the finished work should achieve and how the contractor will check it. Ask about visible patching, color differences, recurring movement and any warranty exclusions. Get instructions for using and maintaining the repaired area. For a walkway, tell the contractor which entrances must remain accessible while work is underway; for a driveway, agree on a parking plan and a return-to-use date.

What your concrete repair quote should include

  • Location, photos, history and diagnosis of the damage
  • Proposed method and its limitations
  • Drainage or support work included and excluded
  • Finished appearance, access and cleanup
  • Recurrence provisions and written warranty exclusions

For budgeting, read the driveway replacement cost guide. These are national estimates, not a local bid. Use the project calculator for quantities after the dimensions are established.

What kind of project is it?

Frequently asked questions

Can every cracked slab be resurfaced?

+

Do not assume resurfacing is suitable from a photo or a price advertisement. Ask the contractor to assess the existing slab and explain how the proposed system deals with the cause of the damage.

Where can I estimate replacement material?

+

Use the slab calculator for dimensions and volume, then request a site-specific replacement quote. Material volume alone does not price diagnosis, demolition, disposal or repairs beneath the slab.

Prices are national ranges published by the sources above, not quotes. Your price depends on size, access, site preparation and local labor rates. The only way to know is to compare written quotes.
