What these Wisconsin records tell you

These selected businesses have current regular Dwelling Contractor credentials in Wisconsin DSPS records. This business certification is distinct from an individual Dwelling Contractor Qualifier credential and is not a concrete specialty or a municipal public-way license. Company websites establish the advertised concrete services; they do not establish workmanship, residential availability or permission for your project. Confirm the complete scope and any local requirements before hiring.

Check each business with WI DSPS's official certification search. A listing is not a workmanship rating, a verified customer review or confirmation that the business participates in our referral service. We do not independently verify insurance; request current documentation directly.

Census geography

Concrete driveway contractors: check the street connection

Milwaukee distinguishes private flatwork from work in the public way. Its homeowner permit guidance lists private driveways and patios among work that does not require a building permit, but expressly calls for separate Public Works approvals for public sidewalks and driveway approaches. Confirm the full scope and property conditions with the city before relying on that distinction.

The city contractor guidance provides a separate contact for concrete licensing. A state Dwelling Contractor credential does not establish that this municipal requirement has been met. Ask who obtains approvals, arranges inspections and keeps pedestrian access safe.

Concrete patio contractors: match the finish and job size

These listings include decorative flatwork and broader construction services. Ask each business whether it accepts residential patios or driveway replacement; a commercial concrete portfolio alone does not establish that. Give bidders the same dimensions, removal requirements, access photographs and finish description.

Ask the bid to identify base preparation, drainage, reinforcement, joint planning, curing protection and when the area can be used. Review patio hiring questions and request relevant project examples. Prices and construction specifications must be established for the actual site.

Business certification and individual qualification differ

Check the legal business and credential number in Wisconsin DSPS. Read the Dwelling Contractor guidance for the business credential and its relationship to the individual qualifier. Neither is a quality score or a concrete specialty designation.

Sources checked October 8, 2026. Milwaukee guidance does not apply automatically to other Wisconsin municipalities. Confirm requirements with the authority for the property.

Give each bidder the same project brief

Measure the existing surface and describe the intended use. Include photographs of cracks, pooling water, changes in level, street access and anything that must remain usable during the work. Ask for demolition, disposal, base preparation, drainage, reinforcement, finish and curing protection to be identified in the written scope. Design requirements should come from the approved plans and project conditions.

Use our concrete calculator once dimensions are established, and our national cost guides for planning context. They are not local bids. Ask what could change the price and who approves changes.

Concrete conditions in Waukesha County

Cold and freeze-thaw

Freeze-thaw is the main risk for outdoor concrete in Waukesha County. Concrete that is wet when it freezes, especially where deicers are used, can scale. NRMCA recommends air-entrained concrete, about 6 percent total air with ¾- to 1-inch aggregate, and a specified strength of 4,000 psi for exterior slabs exposed to freezing and deicers. Ask every bidder to write the specified strength and air content into the quote. Freezing lows are not only a midwinter issue here: about 59 of them fall in March–May and September–November, so spring and fall pours need a plan for cold nights too. ACI calls for cold-weather precautions when air temperatures are expected to fall below 40°F during the protection period.[2, 3]

Heat and drying

Hot days are occasional, about 11 a year at 90°F or above. On those days, an early start and prompt curing help, because heat speeds up setting and moisture loss.[4]

About 37 inches of snow a year means plowing and deicers on driveways. NRMCA notes that deicing chemicals make scaling worse, especially on new concrete.[2]

Homes in Waukesha County

Waukesha County has about 175,591 homes. The median home was built in 1981; 60% were built before 1980 and 10% since 2010. 76% are owner-occupied and 69% are single-family detached houses. With so many older homes, a driveway or patio job often starts with an existing slab. Ask whether the quote includes removal, haul-away and repair of the base underneath.[5] This directory lists 2 businesses based in the county.
