Virginia identifies concrete contracting with the CEM specialty. Our selection requires that specialty and an unexpired date in DPOR's published roster. The roster does not establish current good standing: open the live license record before hiring. Class A, B and C concern permitted contract values, not workmanship ratings.

Ask whether the contractor handles your particular foundation, driveway, patio or repair, and request comparable completed projects. A concrete specialty does not establish availability or willingness to take a small residential job.

Confirm permission for the street connection

Richmond requires a Work in Streets permit for work in the public right-of-way, including driveway work. Before changing a driveway entrance, ask the city which parts of the proposed work fall within that boundary. Richmond right-of-way guidance.

Virginia Beach requires permission for activity in city rights-of-way and easements. Its guidance describes the plans needed for review. Identify the sidewalk, curb and street connection in your project photographs. Virginia Beach right-of-way permits.

These are local examples, not statewide permit rules. Confirm the property jurisdiction and who will obtain approvals before signing. Include drainage, access during construction and restoration of disturbed areas in the written bid.
